Congressional Committees

Different kinds of committees:

Standing Committees are permanent committees. The senate has 16, while the house has 22.

Subcommittees are committees made up of people from the large committees. They work on more specific topics.

Select Committees are made up to deal with issues that aren't handled and assessed by the standing Committees.

Joint Committees are when the two houses work together to solve a problem; with a bill for example.

Conference Committees are the ones who work out compromises in bills if the House and Senate have slightly different versions.
